Teacher's experience, qualifications and productivity - What matters?

These are issues in education confronted not only in Fiji but all around the world.


A research paper in 2010 by a number of Universities (Stanford etc.) in the USA looked examined the evidence related to:

  • teacher's experience - "more is not always necessarily better",

  • early careers,

  • professional development,

  • school socio economic demography

The paper asks:


"Do students attain higher levels of achievement when taught by more experienced teachers? What is the relationship between teacher experience and teacher productivity? "


The researchers used their evidence and made some suggestions for policymakers when it comes to teacher experience in a range of settings.
